Finally running WordPress 2.7

I seem to have a really bad habit of keeping my WordPress installation up to date, but I have finally updated my blog to the very latest version of the WordPress blogging platform. I have installed 2.7 on a number of other blogs I operate but for some reason or another never got round to updating my personal blog here at ChrisBrandrick.com.

I now have, and I am glad I did, as 2.7 is such a joy to use in comparison to previous versions, it has so many little details which really do contribute to the overall user experience. So take note from my tardiness and be sure to upgrade your installation today, you won’t regret it!

Update: I did of course mean to say 2.7.1. I am running the latest version, which is 2.7.1! Thanks to Darren Singleton (via email) and Zander Chance for pointing this post error out to me!

My New Page Rank

Over the last week or so the current round of Google page rank (PR) updates have been rolled out. And ChrisBrandrick.com went from a 0 to a page rank of 4.

For those of you unfamiliar with page rank, it is Google’s method of rating the importance of a website within the web as a whole. So for example a site with more presence and links will supposedly be ranked higher than those without. Google explains Page Rank like so:

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.

Now many debate that the Google Page Rank may not be as important as it once was, especially to advertisers, but it still holds value and is a small indication as to whether your site is making an impact on the web. With this in mind, I’m celebrating the fact, so for the month of August advertising on ChrisBrandrick.com is only $10. $10 gets you one months exposure on the right sidebar in the available 125×125 spot. WordPress 2.6 is here, oh and a quick holiday update!

WordPress today announced that version 2.6 of the popular blogging platform is now available to download, for free of course. This version comes more than a month earlier than expected and is packed with a fair few new features, including a post word count, new media functions, and the ability to view your blog with a different theme before making it live. Check out the below video for the full details:

Running on WordPress 2.5

It may have taken longer than it should, but ChrisBrandrick.com is finally running on the stable release of WordPress 2.5. I mentioned in a previous post that the latest version of the popular blogging platform was on the way, and now, as you may have read on other blogs, it finally has arrived.

After having the new version installed for over a day now, I have familiarised myself with the new layout and although it is a very different it has several neat new features which overall make the back end experience all the more a pleasure to use. If you haven’t upgraded, be sure to do so now.
